The Caboodle Coaster mimics the pattern for the Caboodle Mandala Placemat. It’s the perfect size for today’s huge coffee mugs and is pretty enough for a coffee table as well.

Materials

Cotton Yarn. I used Lilly’s Sugar and Cream

H size Hook

Stitch Marker

Yarn Needle

Stitches and Abbreviations

Magic Ring- mr

Chain- ch

Stitch- st; Stitches- st’s

Single Crochet- sc

Double Crochet- dc

Front Post Double Crochet- fpdc

Popcorn Stitch- ps

Alternate Double Crochet- alt dc

**Be sure to keep your stitches a little loose. Several stitches are crocheted into a single stitch and cotton yarn is not too stretchy.

Alternate Double Crochet Instructions: This stitch is used in place of a starting chain at the beginning of a round and is a very simple alternative to learn with only 2 steps:

In the top of first stitch single crochet loosely, chain 1 loosely. You’re done!

Pattern

Round 1- In mr crochet 8 dc. Sl st to top of first dc.  8 dc.

Round 2- Alt dc in first dc, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to first dc.  16 dc.

Round 3- Alt dc in first dc, fpdc around same stitch, *dc in next st, fpdc around same st.* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st to alt dc. (may be hidden behind fpdc) 16 dc, 16 fpdc.

Round 4- Fpdc around each dc and fpdc. Repeat around. Sl st to first fpdc. 32 fpdc.

Round 5- Fpdc around first st, ch 1, *fpdc around next st, ch 1.*  Repeat from *to* around. Sl st to first fpdc.  32 fpdc, 32 ch 1 spaces.

Round 6- Alt dc in first st, dc in ch 1 space, *dc in next st, dc in ch 1 space.* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st to alt dc. Turn. 64 dc

Round 7- Ch 1, ps in same st, sc in next 3 st’s, *ps in next st, sc in next 3 st’s.* Repeat from *to* around. Sl St to the back of the first ps. Finish off and weave in ends.
